Save the Date: Tuesday June 12, 2012, City Hall, Culver City

The State of California, Department of Conservation, of which the Division of Gas & Geothermal Resources (DOGGR) is a branch, will be conducting a listening tour in seven cities throughout the state.  They are being “conducted as part of a comprehensive information gathering process aimed at the development of regulations governing hydraulic fracturing.”  One of these will be in Culver City on June 12th, 2012, at City Hall.

Each workshop will begin with an overview of oil and gas production in California, including discussion of California’s geologic formations where oil and natural gas are found.  Following this overview, the Department will welcome public comment.  These workshops are intended as an information gathering exercise to advise the Department about specific public concerns regulations could address.  More at Hydraulic Fracturing Workshops

Given that the listening tour may be only two hours, and that if its style replicates the recent CAP meeting on fracking, a good portion of the time will NOT be spent on listening to our concerns.  To help prepare eceryone to maximize time for public input at the June 12th, 2012 event, Dr. Suzanne De Benedittis will be hosting a preparatory educational event.  Contact her at MakeCCsafe@gmail.com for more information.

The Culver Crest Neighborhood Association will meet at Marycrest Manor for our Spring 2012 General Meeting.  Topics include:

  • Smart Meters: Pros and cons – A discussion on Southern California Edison’s push to replace existing electricity meters with  ”smart meters”.
  • Update on Fracking – The oil extraction method known as “fracking” will be discussed with how it relates to PXP’s oil drilling operations.
